The Em—Dash Debacle
Day 17/30 of Short & Polished Journal Entries
Something has been brought to my attention, and it's really quite a nuisance.
So I really like using "em-dashes" (which I’ve only just learnt the name of by this being brought to my attention), but apparently, there's another rather large search engine and information database that likes them... the infamous ChatGPT and AI-generated writing as a whole!
Em-dashes are a really smooth way to interrupt sentences with side-thoughts, emphasise specific information, or even as an alternative when simple commas or hyphens don't suffice.
What's an em-dash? It's the big, elongated brother of the hyphen, and keeps sentences conjoined and flowing in a totally different way, like so:
AI can be good—in its own mechanical way—but it will never write and publish my work.
Additionally, I use them solely when writing on my phone, as it's an easy tap-and-hold function on the dash symbol. I don’t even know how to find one on the computer.
Anyway—to save me from being seen as a bot—you'll never see an em-dash from me again.
*This post—though human-like—may have been written using AI*

I resonate with what you wrote; it's quite funny how AI makes us rethink even punctution choices—a truly twenty-first-century dilemma.
